Weaving Workshop & Medicine Drum Songs (2.5hr)
- Sat 31 Jan 2026, 02:00PM
Facilitated by Naomi Brooks - Roots Of The Earth
A slow, intentional gathering devoted to the ancient art of coil weaving — a practice of presence, prayer, and remembrance. In this sacred space, we come together to weave not only natural fibres, but our stories, intentions, and lived experiences into form. As our hands move, so too does the inner landscape, allowing whatever is alive within us to be gently held, honoured, and transformed through creation.
Rooted in ancestral wisdom and earth-based tradition, this workshop invites you to pause, breathe, and remember the power of making with intention — a timeless practice shared by cultures across the world.
About the Weaving Ceremony
You are invited to join Naomi, for an intimate and soulful gathering of mindful making, song, and connection.
Coil weaving is one of humanity’s oldest crafts — traditionally used by Indigenous peoples across Australia, Africa, the Americas, and beyond to create baskets, ceremonial objects, adornments, and vessels for carrying food, medicine, and spirit. These woven forms were never merely functional; they were embedded with story, kinship, land knowledge, and spiritual meaning.
In many shamanic and Indigenous cultures, weaving is understood as a sacred act — a way of threading intention into matter, of bringing coherence to chaos, and of honouring the interconnectedness of all things. Each stitch becomes a prayer. Each coil, a reflection of life’s unfolding journey.
This ceremony honours weaving as both craft and ritual — a slow medicine for the nervous system and a deeply grounding way to be present with whatever you are moving through.
What We’ll Create Together
You’ll be guided through the traditional coil weaving technique and invited to create one of the following:
🪶 A small woven basket
🪶 A pair of woven earrings
🪶 A hanging coil or wall piece
As you weave, you’re invited to consciously place your intentions, reflections, prayers, or life experiences into your creation — allowing the piece to become a symbolic vessel of your journey.
You are welcome to bring along feathers, seeds, shells, stones, or other natural items you feel called to incorporate. A curated selection of decorative elements will also be provided, though if you have something specific in mind, it’s best to bring it with you.
All materials are provided, including:
🪶 Raffia and weaving fibres
🪶 Needles and tools
🪶 Earring hooks
🪶 Natural decorative elements
Together We Will Also…
🪶 Sit in circle and open the space with intention & cacao (optional)
🪶 Weave in silence and in gentle conversation
🪶 Sing medicine songs accompanied by the drum
🪶 Share stories, reflections, and lived wisdom
🪶 Connect through one of humanity’s oldest communal crafts
🪶 Create in a way that is grounded, slow, and deeply nourishing
There is no rush, no pressure, and no “right” outcome. Each piece will be perfectly unique — just as each journey is.
About The Spaces I Hold
This weaving circle is held as a sacred container — a space of safety, respect, and deep listening. The practices shared are inspired by shamanic and animistic traditions and are offered with humility, reverence, and acknowledgement of the Indigenous peoples who have stewarded these ways of knowing for tens of thousands of years.
We begin by calling in the elements and setting a shared intention, creating a grounded and supportive environment where you are free to express yourself creatively and emotionally.
This experience will meet you exactly where you are. It may feel soft and meditative, or deeply reflective and symbolic. The invitation is simply to come as you are, trust your hands, and allow the weaving to guide you.
A remembering.
A slowing down.
A returning to the wisdom carried in your hands.

About All Our Group Offerings
Cacao
Cacao (Theobroma cacao) is a sacred plant medicine from Central and South America, traditionally used in ceremony to open the heart, uplift the spirit, and deepen connection.
Unlike common chocolate, ceremonial cacao is a pure raw food, and retains its natural theobromine content — a gentle cardiovascular stimulant that increases blood flow and releases feel-good neurochemicals.
Cacao is not psychoactive but can create a warm, euphoric, heart-centred state when consumed intentionally.
If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking antidepressant medication, please let us know — we can serve you a half dose or herbal alternative.
Hapé (Rapé) — Sacred Tobacco Snuff
Hapé (pronounced ha-PAY) is a sacred shamanic snuff made from finely ground Amazonian tobacco (mapacho) and medicinal herbs.
Traditionally used by Indigenous tribes of Brazil and Peru, it’s a purification medicine that helps to clear the mind, ground the energy, and bring presence to the body.
In our ceremonies, hape is always optional and served in reverence. It can induce a short, grounding experience that may include mild physical effects (tingling, light dizziness, or clearing through the nose/throat).
Not suitable for those who are pregnant, have severe hypertension, or are highly sensitive to tobacco.
Breathwork / Bodywork / Massage
Some events may include breathwork, sound healing, or light touch (massage/bodywork) as part of the journey.
All touch is consensual, trauma-informed, and energetically respectful.
Breathwork can evoke strong physical or emotional releases — please inform facilitators beforehand if you have any physical or mental health concerns such as PTSD, cardiovascular issues, pregnancy, epilepsy, or recent surgery.
Shamanic Drum Journey
A drum journey is an ancient meditative practice used across many cultures to access altered states of awareness through rhythmic drumming.
The steady beat helps the brain shift into theta waves, a state of deep relaxation and intuitive insight.
In this state, you may receive visions, sensations, or symbolic guidance. There is no “right” way to journey — simply lie back, breathe, and let the sound carry you.
Sound Healing
Sound healing uses sacred instruments such as didgeridoo, crystal and Tibetan singing bowls, chimes, and rattles to harmonize the energy body.
These frequencies invite the mind into stillness, allowing the nervous system to recalibrate and the body to release tension.
You may feel vibrations moving through your body, experience warmth, tingling, or emotional release.
There’s no need to “do” anything — simply breathe, receive, and let the sound wash through you.
Accupressure
Acupressure and acupuncture are ancient healing arts that work with the body’s energy meridians to restore flow, relieve tension, and bring balance to the internal organs and emotions.
Gentle pressure (or in some sessions, fine sterile needles) is applied to specific points to release blockages and support the natural self-healing process.
You may feel subtle pulses, warmth, or energy shifts as circulation and chi begin to move.
These sensations are a sign the body is rebalancing — relax and allow the process to unfold.
